1. The selection for admission to all the four courses is based on a written examination followed by personal interview. Three separate examinations is held i.e. for Journalism courses, Radio and TV Journalism and Advertising and PR
2. The Proportionate weightage between written examination and personal interview is 85:15 (including Group Discussion and Personal interview).
3. There is no standardized pattern for the written examination However, following parameters of the candidates are judged
(a) For Journalism courses:
(i) General Awareness including: Understanding of social dynamics; Interest in Social history; Awareness of Public debated on matters of polity and economy; Awareness about international developments influencing power equation in the world and their impact on India
(ii) Aptitude & Mental make-up
(iii) Language capability
(iv) Analytical & Comprehension Skills
(b) For Advertising & Public Relations:
(i) General Awareness
(ii) Aptitude and Mental make up
(ii) Language capability
(ii) Analytical and Comprehension Skills
(iv) Brand Awareness and recall
(iv) Qualification Skills
4. The written examination is held on all-India basis at new Delhi.Bhubaneshwar (Orissa), Lucknow (U.P.),Patna (Bihar), Calcutta(W.B.), Guwahati (Assam), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Mumbai (Maharashtra)
5 Although a preference for examination centre is obtained from the candidates , the Institute reserves the right to call any applicant for written examination at any centre at his/her own expenses.
6 A centre for written examination and interview once allotted is not changed under any circumstances
7. All the candidates who qualify the written examination is called for an interview during July in New Delhi or Dhenkanal at their own expenses. For Oriya Journalism course interview will be held at Dhenkanal (Orissa)
8 A list of candidates to be provisionally admitted to each course is prepared on the basis of the combined marks Obtained by candidates in the written examination and interview.
Equipment and Facilities:
The Institute has fairly good facilities for practical training in various branches of communication. The Institute has well equipped sound TV studios and other audio-visual facilities besides an offset printing press
The facility for TV and Video Production consists of Nine ENC Cameras including Betacom facililty.There studio cameras along with camera control units with synch and special effects generators and editing consoles with AB roll facility. The Institute has added Digital sound editing facility and also non lines as digital facility for video.
There is a fully equipped photo lab with different types of cameras to enable the students to handle various photographic assignments. The Institute also has a range of film projectors filmstrip-cum-side projectors and overhead projectors. Its graphic wing has very good facilities for graphic design and silk screen printing.
In order to keep pace with development in the field of communication ,especially in areas of computer based editing ad publishing, the Institute acquired personal computers, Multi Media Systems, Video editing equipment ,IBM Pentium System, Clip Video Camera and a Desk Top Publishing System to provide facilities to students in electronic editing and computer-based graphic lay-out design and publication.
The Institute has one teleprinter circuit
Library: Every student has to make a library deposit of Rs.2500 which will be refunded at the end of the course, provided the student does not owe anything to the library. Each student is allowed to borrow two books at a time of one week. If a student loses a library book, he or she must replace it or pay its price.
Publications: The Institute brings two journals-Communicator (Quarterly) in English and Sanchar Malayalam (quarterly in Hindi.
Hours of Work: The Institute function from 0930 hours to 1800 hours on week days (Monday through Friday), and observes all public holidays in Delhi declared by the Government of India
